2 Bugs: Chat CSS does not expand, and, cannot close "Loading" chat windows

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

  1. The “x” to close a tab in the chat does nothing, when the chat is stuck trying to load.
bigger bug: you should make the chat try harder to load, and never crash mid loading in the first place… just saying…

  2. I cannot use my screen properly because you’ve arbitrarily and uselessly added a max width to your CSS for no reason

Steps to Reproduce

expand tab area on big screen

Expected Behavior

uses all space available

Operating System

Additional Information

Please escalate this to engineering so that can add this fix to their bug queue.
Idea: Maybe use cursor yourself, so it can fix these bugs for you? We’re reporting stuff that you never fix, over-and-over, which Opus-4.5 would have sorted out properly in a few minutes. COME ONE GUYS!!! please start fixing things!!!

Here is a workflow suggestion:

  1. Go get this local MCP: https://aurafriday.com/
  2. Point Claude at your growing list of windows bugs
  3. tell it to use the system mcp tool (from step 1) to fix AND TEST all those things.

For real.

The agent, with that amazing MCP, can fully use and properly test everything a user can do on a windows desktop, 100% agent-driven, no human needed.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

2 more related bugs here:

that menu option closes some other chat tab - NOT the one I right-clicked on!

And:-

this button does nothing (click → nothing happens) when the chat you have open is broken

Hi Chris, thanks for the report. I’ll share these issues with the team.

For the chat panel max-width - is your request to have it use all available horizontal space when expanded?

Did anyone find any workaround or resolution for this? It’s super annoying, why did this just randomly change or is some new setting or feature causing it?

in some versions of cursor, Ctrl-N opened a new chat for me on windows (but not all versions!) - I think agents are the same as chats - maybe start with a new agent, then switch to a chat for it?
