Thanks to 2 Claude Opus 5 sub agents, my extra (non included) usage was reduced to ~30% left. I did not choose this model myself to be a sub agent, even tho I had not turned off the model yet. But I have no idea how someone with a Pro plan is supposed to use this model if you can probably use 3 sub agents of this Opus model. I mostly use the Auto model for normal use, never ever ever a preset model like Opus lol
Hey, thanks for the report. From the screenshot, I can see that almost your entire daily usage went to claude-opus-5-thinking-high, even though you’re on Auto and you didn’t pick Opus yourself.
This is a known issue we’re tracking. When the main agent hands work off to a subagent, the subagent can start on a different model, including a more expensive one, even though it should inherit your model by default. The team is working on stricter controls over which models subagents can use, but there’s no exact timeline yet.
What helps today:
- Turn off Claude Opus 5 and any other models you don’t want to pay for in Settings → Models. In the IDE, this also removes that model from the list a subagent can run on.
- Add a rule like this: “When spawning subagents with the Task tool, never pass a model parameter. Subagents must always inherit the parent model unless I explicitly ask for a different one.”
For the charges from those two Opus events, it’s best to email [email protected] from your account email with the Request ID from that chat, and the team can look into your specific case. To find it: chat menu in the top-right > Copy Request ID.
Let me know if subagents still pick up that model after you disable it.
