I got a sort of workaround, if you click to the small file preview box it shows error of file not existing but gives the button option to “Create file” which it makes it empty but at least once you prompt again like “continue” or retry it will be able to apply the code in created empty file.
I would like to have a huge token reimbursement tho since this makes us burn lots of it….

thats very much cost-effective and if ur gonna take 1 request on each create file this will take all ur requests

I confirm the issue on windows as well.
Sometimes it asks, sometimes does not ask.
I enabled the right settings as described above.

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

After the latest update, whenever we try to write or edit code, or perform any other action with Cursor IDE, it constantly asks for approval or rejection for every action. This issue has become very frustrating, and if it’s not resolved, we won’t be able to work with this powerful IDE. The auto-run mode is also set to execute without asking, and the protections are the same whether turned on or off. It worked fine before the update, but after the update, this problem started. For example, in a large project, we have to approve tens of thousands of times, which is time-consuming and inefficient.

Steps to Reproduce

Update Cursor IDE
remove hestory and …

Operating System

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

I’m getting the same issue but for files in .cursor/ folder only. Writing files outside of .cursor/ folder is fine.

Is there an ETA for fixing this?

menu→file→add folder to workspace…. is work.

sharing this issue: Constantly asks for approval to edit files while using the worktree and parallel generation feature on windows wsl with the project located in wsl. Completely defeats the purpose of that feature when you have to go to each individual generation and hit approve for every single action. It’s been like this for a week. It’s either a bug with it not recognize ~/.cursor/worktrees as part of the workspace or it thinking that the file within ~/.cursor/worktrees is restricted. Toggling off external file protection makes no difference for this.

Same issue, hella annoying. Like others, I have auto-run set to “always”. But that doesn’t help when it’s stuck waiting for me to say “Yes, you may change the file that I specifically asked you to change”.

@deanrie any updates on this? We are still encountering this issues with files in .cursor/ subdirectories like .cursor/tmp/.

Hi guys so @deanrie said there is no temp workaround.

However since the combination of the cursor bugs of:

  1. Having to accept every change
  2. Not actually being shown accept button ( like @Dev4YM pointed out here )

Makes cursor virtually unusable. I found a temp workaround… It’s iffy but desperate times require desperate measures.

So the workaround is to add this “snippet” into the start of the chat:

Okay, so there seems to be a bug in Cursor and that bug is preventing you from like editing the files or creating them. Could you please, for the time being, try to make the edit through terminal, please, thank you.

this makes the editing and creating files work. Again hacky but at least it’s something

Is this the same bug that means cursor always asks for approval to change files within ./cursor folder. Thats also quite annoying.

Same bug here. Makes the feature of using agents on worktrees for parallel work unusable.

Using newest version of cursor. Using a worktree. Have run everything turned on. Trying to get an agent to work on a worktree independently it still wants me to confirm everything.
