how u guys manage to get that?

yeah it worked after force update to 0.47.8

I was able to get it working with Openrouter and cursor 0.47.8.

  1. Make sure you’re using at least cursor 0.47.8 (currently latest)
  2. Setup an openrouter account and get an api key (I added some credits but I don’t think you need to for this model)
  3. In cursor go to your model settings and change the OpenAI API key to the key you got from step 2
  4. Override openai baseurl with: “OpenRouter” <— idk how to make it so it doesn’t parse this into a link, copy the link address don’t just type “OpenRouter”
  5. Click verify (if it fails it’ll complain, if it is good it won’t look like it did anything)
  6. Hit add model up above and enter: “google/gemini-2.5-pro-exp-03-25:free”
  7. Go to your composer and change to the model you just made and make sure it is in ASK mode.
  8. Ask it what model it is.
Note: It will appear to work in other modes, but it will be using claude sonnet 3.5.
If anyone finds a way to make it work in other modes let me know!

Okay, here’s the English translation:

“Google has just released the Gemini Pro 2.5 Experimental model, which features more powerful programming capabilities than ever before. When will Cursor be able to make this model available and integrate it into its agent? This would give users another option besides Claude 3.7.”

Can’t wait to try it on Cursor

Just ignore the error, you may use the gemini with the error.

I tried this but Cursor doesn’t seem to like “google/gemini-2.5-pro-exp-03-25:free” - it just doesn’t add, no error. I can add without the “:free” suffix and the “google/” prefix but it then gives a 404 or 400 error respectively.

Has anyone managed to get this working using this method?

Are you on 0.47.8? I documented the exact process I took and it worked (for Ask mode only).

Same here, im on 0.47.8 on Mac, adding “google/gemini-2.5-pro-exp-03-25:free” does nothing

Ah that could be it! I’m using Windows 11. Also, gemini mostly works, but sometimes I have to send the request a couple times. (maybe load issue idk)

This needs to be added to the agent model ASAP

You have 2.0 not 2.5

Thanks for pointing that out, wishful thinking. My brain wanted the 2.0 to be a 2.5. Bless your liquid metal endoskeleton for the help.

Just to update - The new Gemini 2.5 Pro Exp model is being bombarded by … well, everyone!

I think this goes to show how ‘desperate’ people are to get this working. I had this working using another editor via OpenRouter, and I have to say … it was pretty ■■■■ good. I tried using it direct with google, and I’m getting 50x (read 5 Ex Ex, because ■■ get’s blanked out for some stupid reason) errors, so load is a big thing right now, as the world is waking up, finding out there is a new model, and trying to use it.

It’s VERY fast, and doesn’t seem to be making mistakes - I look forward to using it with Cursor

For guys who can’t add new model to the list!

Do not press “add model”, just press enter - worked for me
