I would like to propose a pricing tier for a plan that is between the Free Hobby Tier and the $20 Pro plan. I don’t know what to call that plan but it would be what the free hobby plan is without the reset limitations plus Extended limits on Agent, and Access to 2-3 frontier models for about $5 a month. No MCP, Skills, or Hooks. I think there will be an influx of independent software developers and more advanced hobbyists who will be interested to subscribe to such a plan and price. The $20/mo tier is a bit hefty for those who want to occasionally experiment more complex and larger activities likely for expanding knowledge or trying out some project but are not using it for business purposes. I hope this will be something that will be offered in the near future.
Hey, thanks for the detailed feedback. A request for a more affordable mid-tier plan between Free and Pro is one of the most common things we hear, and you’re not the first to bring it up. Here are a couple threads with similar suggestions if you want to add your vote:
- Suggestion for an Affordable Subscription Plan
- Cursor's strict limits are suffocating new devs – Here is some free business advice
Pricing is something the team is always thinking about, and feedback like this about independent developers and advanced hobby users is really helpful for those discussions. I’ll pass this along. I can’t promise specifics or timelines for new plans, but demand for this option is definitely on the radar. If there are updates, they’ll be announced in the changelog and on the forum.
Thanks Dean and apologies for adding another post.
I’ll keep a watch on this thread and forum if there will be a future updates to the plans. I understand that it is a business decision, I just thought that it could be a win-win for many independent developers who occasionally dabble in AI and can use Cursor, or those, like me who are on/off users and can’t really justify paying for a subscription that is not used all the time, and increasing the user base for Cursor.
For now, like many others (in fact I learned this workaround from Redis and other communities), is to do the switch-e-roo thingy between Cursor Free and VS Code CoPilot Free, and until then when a $5/mo Cursor plan will come out (wishful thinking) or other equivalent harness as the AI industry goes wild with coming out new tools every month..
