Agent Execution Timed Out (ERROR_EXTENSION_HOST_TIMEOUT)

When using Agent mode, requests fail after approximately 60 seconds with the error:

“Agent Execution Timed Out”
“The agent execution provider did not respond in time. This may indicate the extension host is not running or is unresponsive.”

Stack trace includes:
ConnectError: [deadline_exceeded] Agent Execution Timed Out

The issue occurs consistently and prevents Agent mode from working.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Cursor IDE
  2. Open Agent Chat
  3. Submit any prompt
  4. Wait approximately 60 seconds
  5. Agent fails with “Agent Execution Timed Out”

Expected Behavior

The Agent should initialize correctly and return a response instead of timing out.

Cursor documentation indicates this may be related to the extension host not starting correctly.

I can reproduce the issue consistently.

I have attached screenshots of the error popup and stack trace.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Hey, glad you got it sorted out. For next time, you were on a pretty old build 3.5.33, please update to the latest stable since it fixes some cases of ERROR_EXTENSION_HOST_TIMEOUT.

If the error comes back, reply in the thread. It helps to know what fixed it for you, and it’ll help other users too. Also please share a new Request ID with Privacy Mode turned off.
