Selecting a local folder for a new agent does not show that repo in the left sidebar until you send the first message. That feels broken — opening/selecting a project should be enough to appear as a repository object like the others. Expected: folder selection (or Open Folder) adds it to the Agents sidebar right away.

In the Agents sidebar, a folder you pick via Open Folder should show up right away as its own (empty) group when the sidebar is grouped by Repository, which is the default. Under the other groupings (Workspace, Time, Status), the list is built from existing chats, so a folder only appears there once it has one.
Could you check which grouping you’re on? Click the settings icon at the top of the Agents sidebar and look at Group by. If you’re already on Repository and the folder still only appears after the first message, let us know your Cursor version and we’ll take a closer look!
