Agents Window opens Changes tab instead of chat when switching agents

Subject: Agents Window opens “Changes” tab when switching agents instead of chat

When I switch between agents in the Agents Window sidebar, the main panel now always opens on the Changes tab instead of the chat tab. This started today; previously I landed on the chat by default.

In my school project folders there is no git repository, so Changes shows “Failed to load changes” — not useful, and I have to click the agent/chat tab every time to continue the conversation.

Expected: Switching agents should open the chat view by default (or remember my last tab per agent).

Workaround: Manually click the first tab (agent name) instead of Changes.

Request: A setting like “Default to chat when opening an agent” or remember chat as the default tab when switching sessions.

Windows 10/11, Cursor Pro. Project: local folder, no git.

Hey @Marijke_Allis!

Thanks for the feedback. Can you share your version details (Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + P > About Cursor)?

Hi Colin,

Thanks for looking into this. Here are my version details:

  • Cursor: 3.11.19
  • VS Code: 1.125.0
  • Commit: bf249e6efb5b097f23d7e21d7283429f0760b740
  • OS: Windows 10/11 (build 26200), x64

Short reminder of the issue: when I switch between agents in the Agents Window sidebar, the main panel opens on the Changes tab instead of the chat tab. In folders without git this shows “Failed to load changes”, so I have to click the chat tab every time.

Happy to share more details if needed.

Thanks again,

Marijke

Hey @Marijke_Allis!

Thanks for the details.

I could reproduce the issue on 3.11, but on some newer builds the issue is gone! A fix should come in the upcoming 3.12, or a final 3.11 patch if we get one out before 3.12 comes out.

This should be fixed in 3.13.

I’m on version 3.14.27 And this is an issue for me.

On Ubuntu, let me know if you need anymore details.
