AI chat verbosity

Id like a slider in settings to control how verbose an ai chat reply is. im often asking it to keep replies minimal and short so i can get a clear answer without asking. ive tried adding this as a cursor rule but it doesnt seem to work.

Hi @Rob5 Thank you for the feature request! Rules can be helpful, but not a guarantee; a lot of this behavior is driven by the training/model behavior design. I encourage you to keep your rules in place and don’t hesitate to iterate back and forth with the agent.

Another thing that really helps us is leaving feedback on the reply itself.

On the agent response, use the thumbs (thumbs down if it was too long), add a short note like “too verbose,” and submit. That feedback goes directly to the relevant team, and it is one of the most useful signals we get from users.

If you want us to take a look at a specific request, you can disable privacy mode and share a specific request ID with us as follows:

To disable Privacy Mode:

  1. Open Cursor Settings with Cmd+Shift+J on macOS or Ctrl+Shift+J on Windows/Linux.
  2. Go to General.
  3. Turn Privacy Mode off / switch to Share Data.

To get the Request ID in the Agents Window:

  1. Open the relevant conversation in the Agents Window.
  2. Right-click the prompt (your message), not the agent response.
  3. Select Copy Request ID.
