All cursor chat and composer history was deleted!

Background: I’m on macOS, my Cursor version is 0.45.9.

Yesterday I finished work and closed Cursor by command+Q like I always do. I explicitly remember that it showed some type of window inside Cursor before it was closed, it was closed quickly, so I haven’t read that notice.

Today, when I opened Cursor, my entire composer and chat history was GONE! The rules for AI and the rest of the settings are in place along with everything else like the editors that I left open from the last session, my git extension and state. Everything is in place except for my chat and composer history.

Please, someone help, how did that happen? I didn’t do anything unusual and haven’t touched anything.

Edit: it seems like all the history files are stored on my VPS when I searched in the file manager, I’m connected to my project file directory through ssh - I needed to mention that earlier. The notice was probably related to it. But nothing was actually deleted and it’s still on my VPS server, it just doesn’t show in Cursor.

Now I just need guidance to recover it.

Hey, it’s hard to understand what happened, and you didn’t catch the text on the window. I can only guess that you might be using workspaces? To ensure your history is never lost, I recommend installing this extension, it will make your life easier:

I appreciate the reply, but I need to understand why it happened and if this can be recovered, since I haven’t done anything to cause it myself. I don’t use workspaces, I just work on the files in a folder normally.

Aren’t there any logs the support team can look at? Are there ways to search my local files to see if the history is there or is it stored on cursor’s server?

I need actual help with this issue please. Where can I get real help? I’m a paid user

THANK YOU for your input man. I’m still waiting for help from the Cursor team to recover it.

Were you connected to your project via SSH as well?
