Hi Cursor Team,
I am experiencing a critical issue where all Cursor Grok models (specifically cursor-grok-4.6-xhigh and related variants) are completely unavailable. Whenever I attempt to submit a prompt, I receive the following warning:
Steps to Reproduce
Open Cursor editor and launch a new Chat or Composer session.
Select “cursor-grok-4.6-xhigh” (or any Cursor Grok variant) from the model picker.
Submit any code query or prompt.
Immediately receive the error banner: “The model ‘cursor-grok-4.6-xhigh’ is unavailable and you have been rerouted to Auto.”
Expected Behavior
The prompt should be processed by the selected Grok model without rerouting, as my Pro quota is at 68%.
This is happening to me as well. I am at 11% usage quota but see messages like “Rate limited by model provider, retrying…” and “We’re having trouble connecting to the model provider. This might be temporary - please try again in a moment. Request ID: b80bbd28-de53-4fa9-885a-08ef3f32015f”.
This occurs for me both in agent window and in cursor IDE, with Cursor Grok 4.6 at high and extra high effort levels, as well as Cursor Grok 4.5 at high effort level.
Hey, quick update on the thread: this is a confirmed service degradation on the Grok model provider side, not an issue with your accounts, plans, or quota. There’s an active incident for Grok 4.6 right now and it’s being investigated. You can follow it and subscribe to updates here: https://status.cursor.com
The banner “unavailable and you have been rerouted to Auto”, plus “rate limited” and “unable to reach the model provider”, are all symptoms of the same issue. While the investigation is ongoing, requests to Grok may be unstable.
What you can do now:
Watch the status on status.cursor.com, it’ll show when things are fully restored.
As a temporary workaround, switch to another model in the model picker so you can keep working.
If the issue still happens after the incident is resolved, please share the time with your timezone and the Request ID from the failed request right corner of the chat > three dots > Copy Request ID, and we’ll investigate separately.
