Allow disabling rules, it makes it easier to A/B test rules or switch personalities.

I realise commands allow manually adding a particular set of rules. Its still a problem since I want to use a particular set of instructions over many chats and across projects, manually adding them in each one is not ideal.

For switching between sets of instructions across chats and projects, Custom Modes should fit well. Put each “personality” in its own skill under ~/.cursor/skills/<name>/SKILL.md so it’s available in every project. Add disable-model-invocation: true to its frontmatter if you only want it used when you pick it.
Then in the Agents Window, type /, highlight the skill, and press ⌥⏎ (Mac) or Alt+Enter (Windows), or choose “Use as Mode”. The skill stays pinned for the whole chat, so you don’t need to re-add it on every message. You pick it once per chat, and swapping to another mode is how you compare variants.
