Describe the Bug

Every week the shortcut to cursor breaks. Both icon in taskbar and in windows search. First I only had it on my secondary machine but it’s also happened on my main machine just now. Secondary machine has bitdefender installed so I thought that may be the issue but my other machine is just plain windows with defender.
Only solution is to reinstall from .exe.
After some searching it seems that this is a common issue for Electron apps when an update is not finished installing and the machine is turned off. Now I always update the moment I see that “update” button in the app so I don’t know how this keeps happening.

Steps to Reproduce

No particular steps. It’s just gone after reboot.

Hey there! Thanks for flagging this - it’s an issue we’re tracking with the Windows updater, not your setup. Reinstall from cursor.com/download (settings under %APPDATA%\Cursor stay), and don’t shortcut the _ folder under the install dir.

To cut how often it happens: in the Editor (Ctrl+,), set update.mode to start, fully quit Cursor before Windows shutdown, and exclude %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\cursor in Bitdefender/Defender. Same class: Windows: Desktop shortcut breaks after auto update. I’ll post here when there’s an update.
