I may be busy, or I may be running several projects in parallel, or I may have had to go to the bathroom - the issue is, when I return to the window, questions were asked by the agent (which I didn’t even know were there), the timeout expired, and the agent went along assuming defaults.
This is very annoying, to say the least.
Also, even if I’m in front of the chat when the questions appear, I get anxious and feel pressured to read the model’s preceding explanation and answer the questions as fast as possible, as it may skip them at any time (and I don’t know how much time is remaining).
I should be allowed to think for as much time as I want about questions that may be very important and require careful consideration.
I already added a global rule to prevent the agent from proceeding with assumed defaults and instead stop and wait for a message from me. But it’s just a stopgap, not a solution. The answers I select in the Ask window will be ignored when I submit them, and I will have to type them by hand in a new text message. A waste of time.
We should be able to disable the timeout, or at least select its duration.
This is getting to be really frustrating.
It’s very common for me to not select any of the options the agent provides on the AskTool, and instead type something on the Other option, where I can type my custom answer. Sometimes there are several questions and I type a custom answer on each of them, frequently even large answers, because I want to provide enough information for the agent within the same turn.
Well, it now frequently happens that when I have already typed in substantial text on one or more custom answers, and I am still writing, the timeout expires and Cursor clears my custom answers - puff, gone! And I have no way to get them back. I value my time a lot, and having to type everything again is quite frustrating!
I am now making an effort to not use the custom answers fields, and instead use the large text box for normal messages instead. At least, on that one, I can press Cmd+Z and make the previous text come back again.
Please, Cursor team, drop these timeouts or let me disable them.
And if the timeout occurs, don’t let the questions panel open - it is misleading, as it won’t do anything when I submit the answers - it won’t trigger an agent response.
By the way, the questions panel takes a lot of space, and leaves too little space for me to read the message the agent said before it triggered the AskTool. So I get only a tiny slot between my previous message at the top and the questions panel at the bottom, to scroll and read some large text the agent has written before asking the questions. At least, let me toggle it open/close.
