Auto start Cursor after doing an update

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

after update, you could be sitting there forever for cursor to start. didnt realize you have to start it again after an update. it should auto start after an update. also, can we have it running in background so that closing the app doesn’t quit it in background, meaning still in task tray, just like Claude.

Steps to Reproduce

click on update when available. it downloads and completes but thats it. user expecting cursor to open but it doesnt.

Expected Behavior

after an update, cursor should start and go to last chat opened.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey @Jose_Bartolome, thanks for reporting this. There are two separate pieces here.

Cursor should normally reopen after a Windows background update. Could you open the IDE (Editor View), press Ctrl+Shift+P, run Open VS Code Settings, and confirm whether Enable Background Updates on Windows is turned on?

Could you also tell us what happened when the update finished? Specifically, did the update window disappear, remain on Starting Cursor, or show an error?

Hi Kevin, it wasnt checked. i just checked it now, we shall see on next update. thank you!!!
