Both piecesos and vs code have gpt 4.1 as their free opion along with lots of others that are newer and quicker than cursors options you need to offer a better quicker ai models with the basic option and trial
Are you talking about the Github Copilot extension offering gpt 4.1 with its free tier?
This isn’t unlimited. Its 50 requests/mo. If you only need 50 and don’t need higher end models, then yea, this is a good free option.
And the free version probably has github copilot training on your project, if that mattered.
If your goal is to hunt for the cheapest/free option, Cursor is not competing for that slot and in my opinion shouldn’t. There’s no money in it and the “free” userbase is trash because they can’t program so they just complain nonstop.

just install it its gpt 4.1 it uses add the desktop and the extentions there is a bridge to get stuff from you agent ive also just made my own that sends results to the agent to carry out .
default seems to be 4.1 like vscode is not shure is they are teaned up . plugins are nice cuss you can copy code and snipts etc to use etc

gpt 4.1 with copilot is free up to 50 requests. How is this different than Cursor’s free tier where you get some free requests? Also gpt-5-mini is basically free on Cursor as of now, and its better than 4.1. And Auto is free and unlimited if you lock in an annual membership before 9/15.
