[Bug] I select Fable in new Agent but get Composer instead

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Creating a new agent for use with Fable 5 and it reverts back to Composer 2.5.

Also, why can’t I copy paste screenshots? Why do you make me save them to disk?
Also, why is the Cursor ID the only product so select not the Cursor Agent window?

Steps to Reproduce

  1. In the Cursor Agents app
  2. start a new agent. It defaults to Fable 5 high (which is what I want)
  3. Open Files and find the handoff doc I created for the handoff to a Fable-agent.
  4. Right-Click file and select “Use in chat”
  5. Ask questions
  6. I see “Composer 2.5” as the model.
  7. I ask the agent why it’s not Fable, and it tells me I’m stupid for choosing a file with the word “Fable” in the name .

Expected Behavior

Fable 5 will be used for the chat agent conversation

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

hi @Paul_Harker, as you may have missed it, fable 5 was made unavailable by antrhopic due to security reason, because of that, it was also removed from access inside cursor, we are waiting for official statement concerning it’s coming back, you can check more in here : Claude Fable 5 - Out Now! - #31 by Colin

Hey, thanks for the report.

Fable 5 is currently unavailable. So even if the new agent has Fable 5 High set by default, the request actually goes to an available model, Composer 2.5. This isn’t a model selection bug, and it’s not related to your file name. Use in chat just adds the file to context, it doesn’t change the model, and the word match on Fable is just a coincidence.

I agree it looks confusing. The picker shows Fable, but there’s no message saying it’s unavailable and that we’re falling back to Composer. I’ve noted this UX issue.

There’s no timeline yet for when Fable will be back. Once we have official info, it’ll be shared in the same thread.

For the other issues like pasting screenshots from the clipboard and the missing Cursor Agent window option in the bug form dropdown, I’ll pass them along as feedback.
