Bug: Prior prompt editing: blur resets edits

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

When editing a prior prompt (for example, to correct a mistaken statement that lead the model down the wrong path), if the text input area loses focus, the old prompt content is restored, destroying any in-progress edits/corrections.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Enter a new prompt, and send it; wait for the response.
  2. Click in the prompt block to edit the contents in any way.
  3. Click anywhere else within the sidebar - on the response, on a different chat tab, etc.
  4. Click back into the prompt block you edited - the contents are reset to the original prompt content.

Expected Behavior

Edits in progress are preserved. This was the previous behavior, but it broke a few version updates ago (not sure which version, sorry).

Additional Information

This is a pretty severe workflow disruption for me, as I often “rewind” to previous context points.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey @Scott_Severtson, thanks for the report and the recording.

This is a known issue we’re already tracking, and I’ve added your report to it. Right now an unsent edit of an earlier message only lives inside that edit box, so clicking anywhere else in the chat closes the edit and the original text comes back. The fix the team is working toward keeps the edit open until you explicitly send or cancel it.

Until that lands, a couple of things help:

  1. Before clicking away, press Cmd+A then Cmd+C inside the edit box so you can paste the draft back if it resets.
  2. To look at earlier output while editing, scroll with the trackpad or mouse wheel instead of clicking in the chat, since scrolling doesn’t close the edit.
  3. Finish or send the edit before switching chat tabs, which also resets it.

Sorry for the disruption!

Oh, good, @Colin! Thanks for the confirmation and info. Any idea when the fix might land?
