Canceled chat message is still sent to the model with the next message

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

A chat message that I canceled still reached the model. I canceled a message before the model replied to it. When I sent my next message, the model received both, the canceled one and the new one, back to back in the same request with no reply in between. The model could quote the canceled message word for word.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. In a Cursor IDE chat, send any message (I sent “Hi”) and wait for the reply.
  2. Send a second message (“This msg is to be canceled, testing something here”) and cancel it before the model replies.
  3. Send a third message asking whether the model can see the second message.
  4. The model says it can see it and quotes it.

Expected Behavior

A canceled message is dropped from the conversation and is not sent to the model with later messages.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey @universe, thanks for the report!

You’re right, that shouldn’t happen. When you stop a message before the model replies, Cursor removes it from the chat and puts the text back in your input box, and it’s meant to be dropped from what the model sees as well. I was able to confirm on our side that in your case it was still carried into the next request, so I’ve flagged this to the team.

This issue is rather annoying.

Please push the update as soon as possible, thanks.
