Cannot disable Data Sharing

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Describe the Bug

In the Cursor Dashboard > Settings, it is not possible to disable the “Share Data” option. No matter how many times I select “Privacy Mode”, type the same in the box and hit “Done” - the setting remains at “Share Data”

Steps to Reproduce

Go to Dashboard > Settings, select Privacy Mode, type in Privacy Mode and hit Done.

Expected Behavior

Setting is changed to Privacy Mode.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Current Cursor Version (Menu → About Cursor → Copy)

Not applicable as in Dashboard.

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. Interesting situation - we usually see the opposite problem (doesn’t work in IDE, but works in the dashboard).

Try this workaround: change Privacy Mode directly in the IDE - Settings CMD/CTRL + , > Cursor Settings > General > Privacy Mode. That should do it from there.

If that doesn’t help, let me get some info to diagnose this:

  • What browser are you using?
  • Can you open the browser console (F12) and check if there are any errors when you click Done?
  • What’s your subscription plan?

Let me know if the IDE workaround helped.

It did not work from the IDE either at first. However, once the “first day” period ran out, we were able to change it from both locations.

It appears that the state cannot be changed during that window. It would be helpful to disable that or at least add a note to that effect somewhere.
