### Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

### Describe the Bug

In the settings I see now only the main models can be chosen and not the reasoning effort. In the agent chat box if I hover over the model name and reasoning effort I see it says to use “ctrl-shift-/” to change reasoning but this does nothing. ctrl-/ does open the box to choose model, but ctrl-shift-/ has no effect, and there appears to be no other way to choose reasoning effort using the mouse?

### Steps to Reproduce

try to use ctrl-shift-/ and see it doesn’t do anything

### Expected Behavior

there should be a way to use the mouse to choose reasoning effort

### Operating System

Windows 10/11

### Version Information

Version: 2.7.0-pre.87.patch.0 (user setup)

Also I don’t see how to choose between fast/non-fast models anymore?

Hey, thanks for the report. This is a bug. On Windows, `Ctrl+Shift+/` conflicts with another action opening the Agents view, so the shortcut gets swallowed and the reasoning effort doesn’t switch.

Until it’s fixed, there’s a workaround. You can rebind the keybinding manually.

1. Open Keyboard Shortcuts `Ctrl+K Ctrl+S`
2. Find `composer.cycleModelParameter`
3. Assign it a different shortcut that doesn’t conflict

About switching with the mouse. If you click the model name in the chat, or use `Ctrl+/`, you can change model parameters in the model picker. But I agree it’s not obvious from the tooltip.

About fast and non-fast, can you clarify what exactly you’re looking for? In the latest versions, models and their parameters are organized a bit differently.

I’ve shared this with the team. Let me know if the rebind workaround helps.

Ok rebinding to ctrl-shift-9 worked, and also in the latest 96 nightly I see there is a mouse-based Edit menu available, thanks.

This is still broken for me. Extremely annoying and changing the shortcut did nothing. Unusable if I can’t use high reasoning

please tell me this isnt some dark pattern to get people to use the cursor premium model lol

Hey @pfreema1, can you clarify a couple things so we can figure this out:

1. What Cursor version and OS are you on?
2. Did you rebind a shortcut specifically, or did you try changing reasoning effort via the UI? If you click the model name in chat (or press `Ctrl+/`), it opens the model picker and you can switch reasoning effort with the mouse.
3. After rebinding the shortcut, what key did you assign, and does it show up in Keyboard Shortcuts without conflicts?

This is definitely not a dark pattern. Reasoning effort works on all models that support it. It’s most likely something specific in your setup.

Share those details and we’ll sort it out.

Hey there,
Looking at your details (Cursor 2.6.22, macOS), your situation differs from the original report in this thread.

The reasoning effort controls in the model picker are part of a newer model system that’s not yet available on all stable builds. That’s why clicking a model just selects it without showing any parameter options, and why rebinding shortcuts doesn’t help.

You have two options right now:

1. **Try the nightly release track** — the reasoning effort controls are available there. You can switch via **Cursor Settings \> About \> Release Track**

2. **Use Auto mode** — it automatically selects the best model configuration for your task, including reasoning level

This feature is being expanded to more users, so it should reach stable builds in the future.
