I’m using a free plan and I can’t switch to Auto model. The model dropdown is locked to Cursor Grok 4.6 Medium and when I click on it the “Upgrade to unlock premium models” window shows up. Often there is a high demand for this model so I often can’t keep on working because the model doesn’t have time to work for me, it would be convenient even if I could switch to Composer 2.5. Is this intended behavior or a bug, that I can’t switch to Auto?

On Free without your own API key, the model picker is locked to a single model. Right now that’s Cursor Grok 4.6 Medium with a lock icon. The lock only limits switching models, the AI still works. Cursor Grok 4.6 Medium is available on Free within your included limit. The Upgrade to unlock premium models window is about choosing other models like Auto or Composer 2.5, which are part of paid plans.
About high demand. When Grok 4.6 is busy, usually during peak hours, Free requests get paused first. That’s why you may see High Load for a couple of minutes. It usually helps to wait a bit and send your message again, and it’s noticeably more stable off-peak. Paid plans get priority capacity and let you switch to Auto or Composer 2.5 when one model is busy.
