Hey @Terence_Yu, thanks for the report and the log.
Your network is fine, and so is your colleague’s. I found your requests on our side: every one of them reaches Cursor, and the model provider rejects them because the prompt is far too large. Each message you send arrives at roughly 500,000 tokens (more than Composer/Grok can accept). Cursor then tries to compress the conversation and retries a few times, and when that cannot help it shows the generic “Connection failed” message, which is why it looks like a network problem.
The size is the same on the very first message of a brand-new chat, so something included with every message is enormous. It is not your rules or MCP servers (those are tiny on your requests), so it is most likely something attached to the message itself, for example, a large pasted block, an attached document, a commit / PR / branch reference, or a very large link.
Could you try this and tell me what you see?
Also, if you have a Request ID from a failed Composer message (three-dot menu on the message, then Copy Request ID), please paste it here.
Thanks for your support. Your information is very important to me. The root cause is clear. It stems from the User Rules I imported into Cursor. Within my current system prompt, the <user_rules> section includes content imported from a directory. This directory holds over 150 agent persona definition files in .mdc format, each containing detailed agent instructions ranging from several hundred to several thousand words.
