Hello, it looks like the latest Cursor update removed the ability to display Claude Code directly as a tab in the agents panel. This is a massive regression for our workflow, since we primarily use Claude Code with Composer 2.5 as its pay-as-you-go assistant. We have rolled back our Cursor IDE update and disabled auto updating. If this is not intended to come back, our team will be changing to Visual Studio Code, since Cursor no longer provides us any benefit over the mainline release. Using the 3rd party Claude Code extension is not a replacement for built-in Claude Code support.
Starting in 3.15.5, the Secondary Side Bar (the panel with Agent tabs) is reserved for Cursor’s own agent UI, so you can’t dock Claude Code there anymore by dragging it or using Move Editor into Right Group. But you can still bring the tab back via the Command Palette:
Ctrl+Shift+P or Cmd+Shift+P
View: Move View
Pick the Claude Code view
Assign Secondary Side Bar Entry
That puts the tab back next to Cursor Agent. Another option is to drag the collapsible Claude Code header to the left sidebar, then right-click it and use Move to, then Secondary Side Panel.
Small note: for some users, clicking New Session still opens Claude Code as an editor tab. If you hit that, let me know and we’ll dig in. Your Cursor version and OS will help.
I get that changing your layout in the middle of work is annoying. I’ll pass the request for a native Claude Code tab in the right panel to the team as feedback. Let me know if the workaround worked for you.
Thank you Dean! This did fix it. It’s unfortunate that the Cursor team went out of their way to remove this out of the box feature that a lot of users have been vocal about being a critical part of their work flow. In this thread, Kevin Nelson said it was a deliberate decision to not support it anymore. It remains to be seen if the same product owners who made this poor and short-sighted decision will decide to remove this workaround in the future as well. But, in the short term, my Cursor IDE has been fixed and I appreciate you forwarding the feedback. Have a great rest of your day Dean!
