Clearing chats hangs the IDE

Describe the Bug

When clearing even a single chat with ‘clear all chats’ the IDE pauses, the OS spinning wheel appears and for at least 5-10 seconds the entire IDE is unresponsive and then text input into the chat is frozen.

Steps to Reproduce

Have a few chats open and select ‘clear all chats’

Expected Behavior

The chats should clear immediately without freezing the IDE.

Thanks for reporting this issue with chat clearing causing IDE freezes. I wasn’t able to reproduce this behavior, but I notice you’re currently on version 1.3.4.

Could you please try updating to the latest version 1.3.5 and see if the issue persists? There have been several performance improvements and bug fixes since 1.3.4 that may have addressed this specific freezing issue.

To update:

  • Go to Cursor → Check for Updates (on Mac)

  • Or download the latest version from cursor.com

After updating, please test the “clear all chats” functionality again and let us know if you still experience the 5-10 second freeze.

If the issue continues after updating, could you also share:

  • How many chats you typically have open when this occurs

  • Whether it happens with just 1-2 chats or only with many chats

Yes the issue is still there in 1.3.5. You can seem my os is MacOs. The issue is quite reproducible by having an empty chat and hit the ‘+’ sign multiple times then attempt to clear the chats. The system hangs for a while before you are able to again type in the chat window.

Sorry about that. I’m also on 1.3.5 on MacOS and but not able to reproduce it.
