[CLI] How can I verify if a sub-agent is currently running?

I am attempting to use the CLI agent and I’m unsure how to verify when it spawns a sub-agent.

In the Cursor GUI, there is usually a visual indicator when a sub-agent is active. However, in the CLI, I don’t see any specific logs or UI feedback telling me that a sub-agent is running. I do notice my context usage percentage increasing, so I know something is happening, but I can’t confirm the specific behavior.

I couldn’t find any documentation regarding CLI sub-agent indicators. Could someone clarify how to identify this in the terminal?

Thanks!

Hey, good request. Right now, the CLI doesn’t have the same visual indicators for sub-agents as the GUI. That’s a known gap. The increase in context usage you’re seeing is one sign that a sub-agent is running, but there isn’t a clear log or status line yet.

The team knows the sub-agent experience in the CLI is still a bit rough. It’s on the roadmap, but I can’t share specific timelines.

Please tell me which CLI version you’re using, and I can check if there’s any progress on this.

Hey I am using the latest 2026.01.28-fd13201
