Codex button / extention does not work on 3.16, though it does on 3.14

upgrade 3.16 to 3.16 with the installed Codex extention

Hey, thanks for the report. I see the screenshot showing Codex’s state after the upgrade.

This is expected after the update, not something broken in your setup. Starting in 3.15, the right panel Secondary Side Bar where the Cursor Agent tabs live is reserved for Cursor’s own agent UI, so extensions like Codex can’t place their panel there anymore. That’s why the button stopped working when moving from 3.14 to 3.16.

What you can do now:

  • The Codex extension view now shows up under the Explorer sidebar on the left, not on the right.
  • The command Codex: New Codex Agent from the Command Palette Cmd+Shift+P or Ctrl+Shift+P still works.

If Codex doesn’t show up anywhere at all, please send the exact error text from the screenshot or from View > Output > Extension Host, and we can take a closer look.

We’re tracking this as a Codex compatibility issue. There’s no exact timeline yet, but I’ll post here if there’s an update.
