Make Completion sound customizable, provide more selections built-in that’ s more clear than current default. I only notice current sound when I’ m not playing background music. I thought the function was not working before I heard it when I was doing a remote control session.
I tried today again. I’m sure I can only hear the sound when using a remote control software. I don’ t hear it locally using a headphone. Could there be a bug?
Hey, thanks for the feature request. On customization, you can already do this: turn on Completion Sound in Cursor Settings (General > Notifications), then click Browse and pick your audio file. We support mp3, wav, and ogg. This lets you set something more noticeable than the default.
Quick heads-up: for some users, the custom file won’t play in Preview, with a format error even if the file is valid. That’s a known bug on our side, and there isn’t a reliable workaround yet. If you hit this, message me and we’ll look into your specific case.
A built-in preset library and a more noticeable default sound are good ideas. I’ll pass that to the team.
On the second part, if the sound is only audible through remote control software but not locally in your headphones, it sounds like an audio routing issue or unstable playback. To debug, can you share:
Your OS and Cursor version
Which audio device is active when it doesn’t play locally, system output or headphones
That’ll help us tell if it’s a bug or just how audio output is being routed.
Thanks for the details and the screenshot. I can see your default output is set to the HUAWEI FreeClip Bluetooth headphones.
First, please update to the latest Cursor version via Help > Check for Updates. You’re on 3.6.31, and there have been a few releases since then, so some audio issues may already be fixed. After updating, check if it still happens.
If the issue is still there, the fact that the sound is only audible during a remote control session, but not locally through your headphones, looks more like Bluetooth headphone behavior than a Cursor issue. Bluetooth devices often go idle or low-power between sounds and can cut off or completely miss very short sounds like the completion chime. During a remote session, the audio stream stays open continuously, so the chime has time to play.
Quick test: switch output to the speakers (Qualcomm Aqstic Audio Adapter) and run the agent a couple of times. If the chime plays reliably on speakers but not on Bluetooth, it’s likely the Bluetooth link, not Cursor.
Workaround for headphones: in Browse, set a custom sound that’s longer and louder. A longer sound is more likely to play after the Bluetooth link “wakes up” than the short default chime.
Let me know what you see after updating and after testing on speakers, and I’ll log it along with similar reports about unstable playback. There’s no ETA for a fix yet.
