Confusing Question Answer UI

I find this UI a bit confusing. The field below “add more optional details” tells me I should be able to select my answers, then type in some extra questions about the previous response, and then hit the normal send arrow (currently mic icon).

however, when i do this, even when i have my answers selected, it just shows “questions skipped” in the resulting prompt and sends my written text.

Is this a bug? Am I suppose to type it below then hit orange Next above?

Hey, thanks for the report. This isn’t a bug, it’s how the UI works right now, but I agree it’s confusing.

How it works today:

  • To submit the selected answers, click the orange Next/Continue button in the Questions card, or press Enter when that card is focused.
  • If a specific question needs custom text, use the Other… option. It has its own inline text field.
  • The field at the bottom, Add more optional details…, is a normal chat input. If you hit its send arrow while the questions are still there, we treat that as skip the questions and just send this message to the agent. The text reaches the agent, but your selected options get dropped, which is why you see Questions skipped.

So right now, selecting options in the card and typing text at the bottom don’t get combined into one submit, and that’s what tripped you up. I agree the Add more optional details… placeholder suggests the opposite.

Let me know if anything about this flow is still unclear.

thanks for clarifying – yeah definitely would benefit from having clearer label for the input text in that case. “Add” implies it’s adding to the question set prompt as a package. “Send something else…” perhaps?

But i would still expect to be able to to both, answer the questions and send additional details along in teh same prompt. if the user doesn’t want to asnwer the questions they can leave it blank or hit skip to close the callout box and just type their prompt. perhaps then the label changes. otherwise it gets sent as a package.

Thanks for writing this up. This is solid feedback, and I agree with both points.

You’re right about the label. Add does suggest the text gets appended to the answers as a single bundle, but that’s not how it works right now. Something like Send something else… matches the current behavior much better.

On answering the questions and sending extra details in one go, that’s a reasonable expectation, and the UI used to work that way. The team is already tracking this request. I can’t share a timeline yet, but if I get an update, I’ll post it here.
