It all passed all Network Diagnostics and Cursor Agent works but only connection error with IDE. What is the reason and how can I fix it? ---

Hey, thanks for the report and for the detailed stack trace. This error happens locally, before the request even leaves Cursor. The background component that Agent needs didn’t start after the last update. That’s why Network Diagnostics shows green, it’s not a network issue and it’s not your setup. I can see the screenshot with the green Network Diagnostics panel, that confirms it’s a client-side failure, not a connection problem. First, please try a clean reinstall: 1. Close Cursor via File \> Exit. 2. In Task Manager, end any remaining Cursor processes. 3. Download the latest installer from [Cursor · Download](https://cursor.com/download) and reinstall. 4. Open your project and send Agent a short hello. If that doesn’t help, please send: 1. Help \> Toggle Developer Tools \> Console tab, any red lines that include `cursor-agent-host` (for example `Activating extension 'anysphere.cursor-agent-host' failed ...`). 2. View \> Output, in the dropdown select Cursor Agent Host, then copy the last lines, or tell me if that option isn’t there. 3. Whether this is Windows Server or an RDP VM, or a regular machine, and whether any antivirus or app control is enabled like Defender, Smart App Control, or corporate security software. This is a known issue and we’re tracking it. I can’t give an exact ETA yet, but the logs above will help narrow down what’s blocking registration on your machine. Let me know how the reinstall goes. ---

Hey @Leon_0419, an update on the “agent host bridge” timeout error. This error happens locally, before the request leaves Cursor. That’s why Network Diagnostics is green and the separate Agents app works. The background component that Agent needs in the IDE didn’t start after the update because it depended on the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime. Recent Cursor versions no longer have that dependency. First, update Cursor to the latest version and send Agent a quick “hello” in the IDE. Our records show you were on 3.21.18, which is from before the fix. If it still times out, try repairing the Visual C++ Redistributable. This has worked for other users with the same error: 1. Download the latest x64 Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft: [https://aka.ms/vc14/vc\_redist.x64.exe](https://aka.ms/vc14/vc_redist.x64.exe) 2. Run it and choose Repair, or Install if Repair isn’t available. 3. Restart your computer, open Cursor, and send Agent a quick “hello”. If it works, no need to reply. If it doesn’t, please send the red `cursor-agent-host` lines from Help \> Toggle Developer Tools \> Console, as mentioned in my previous reply, and I’ll take a closer look. Also, let me know whether this is a regular computer or a Windows Server / RDP VM, and whether you have any antivirus or app control enabled, such as Defender, Smart App Control, or corporate security software. ---

Hey @Abdelrahman, thanks for the detailed diagnostic output. All your Network Diagnostics checks are green, including HTTP/2 and Agent, so this doesn’t look like a network issue. The failure is happening locally, before the request leaves Cursor. On Windows, this is most often related to the background Agent component not starting. You’re already on 3.23.23, which is the current version, so no update is needed. For this type of error on Windows, repairing the Visual C++ Redistributable often helps: 1. Download the latest x64 Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft: [https://aka.ms/vc14/vc\_redist.x64.exe](https://aka.ms/vc14/vc_redist.x64.exe) 2. Run it and choose Repair, or Install if Repair isn’t available. 3. Restart your computer, open Cursor, and send Agent a short “hello”. If that doesn’t help, please send the following so I can dig deeper: 1. The Request ID from a specific failed attempt right top of the chat menu \> Copy Request ID, plus the full error text or stack trace. 2. Where exactly it fails, in the IDE chat, in the Agents window, or everywhere, and whether it happens all the time or only sometimes. 3. In Help \> Toggle Developer Tools \> Console, any red lines mentioning `cursor-agent-host`, for example `Activating extension 'anysphere.cursor-agent-host' failed ...`. 4. Whether this is a regular computer or a Windows Server or RDP VM, and whether antivirus or app control is enabled, like Defender, Smart App Control, or corporate security software.
