"Cursor becomes completely unusable after a single crash in WSL

I am using Cursor for development in the default Ubuntu environment of WSL on Windows 11. My workflow involves creating Laplacian pyramids from multiple images, which eventually generates a single TIFF file larger than 30MB.

Whenever I click on this TIFF file within Cursor, the software stops responding. After a while, clicking again triggers the error shown in the attached image, and the editor becomes completely unusable.

I have tried the following troubleshooting steps without success:

  • Returning to the native Windows 11 environment: The issue persists.

  • Restarting Cursor 5-6 times: Eventually, it results in a completely blank white screen with no UI displayed.

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling Cursor: The issue remains.

  • Completely wiping Cursor: I deleted the user configuration files and removed all Cursor-related registry entries before reinstalling, but the problem still occurs.

I then added the --disable-gpu flag to the startup shortcut ("C:\Program Files\cursor\Cursor.exe" --disable-gpu). This allows Cursor to launch, but I still frequently encounter this error. I usually have to click “New Window” once or twice to get it working again, which is extremely frustrating.

My System Specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i9

  • GPU: NVIDIA D V2 (24GB) (RTX5090,24GB)

  • Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B760M-PLUS

  • RAM: 32GB Kingston Beast

  • Storage: 2x 512GB M.2 SSDs

Has anyone else experienced this issue or found a permanent solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It just kept throwing Error -1073741819 multiple times, and now it’s stuck on a white screen and totally unusable again. What else can I do?
