I’ve been using Cursor heavily and kept running into the same problem: it’s difficult to see what’s actually consuming your usage while you’re working.
You can check the dashboard afterwards, but by then an expensive Agent run has already happened.
So I built Cursor Cost Tracker, an open-source extension for Cursor and VS Code.
The main idea is simple: make Cursor usage visible directly inside the IDE.
What it currently does
- Current + Today usage directly in the status bar
- Recent queries with cost + token count
- Token-spike warnings for unusually expensive requests
- Monthly cost forecast — used, forecast, ideal pace and estimated run-out
- Critical Alert when a query reaches a configurable token/$ threshold
- Burn Rate Guard — warns when your current spending rate suddenly gets too high
- Usage history with cost, tokens, model and request type
- CSV export
- Optimize — generates Quick / Balanced / Deep prompts to investigate expensive queries
- Coding Stats — coding time, active days, sessions and productivity-related stats
The extension doesn’t try to replace Cursor’s dashboard. The goal is to give you the information while you’re actually coding, when it can still be useful.
It’s free and open source:

I’m the developer behind it, so I’d really appreciate feedback from people who use Cursor heavily.
What usage/cost information do you currently wish Cursor showed directly in the IDE?
If there are specific metrics or alerts you’d find useful, I’d be interested in adding them.
