Cursor has been freezing on me

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Since yesterday, Cursor has been freezing on me. Switching to a different agent fixes it. I’m on GPT 5.4 and Opus 4.7. After I finish a fairly complex task, it almost always gets stuck on “planning next moves” and never moves on.
I hope you can fix this, share what caused it, and confirm that this kind of hang does not consume or waste my tokens. 52523527-71b9-444c-9aed-2c63002ba2a8

Steps to Reproduce

Steps to reproduce: Open an agent, switch to GPT 5.4, have a few back-and-forth turns — then it hangs. It can stay stuck like that all night.

MacOS

Sorry about the freezing. This is a known issue we’re actively working on – long agent sessions with many turns can hit an internal timeout, which is what’s happening here.

On your token question: tokens are consumed during the active portion of the session (while the model is working), but once the timeout fires, no further tokens are used. The hang itself doesn’t keep burning tokens.

For now, starting fresh conversations more often and switching models when it hangs (which you’ve already found) are the best workarounds.

Others have reported similar experiences in this thread, and we’ll be posting updates there as and when the fixes are out.

Please fix this as soon as you can. I keep having to resend messages, and that’s definitely wasting my tokens.
