Above is the the cursor app in windows being unrecognized? Why because I wanted to restart my computer and cursor was set to install update on cursor exit and I saw cursor installing too late as the computer was restarting. Cursor auto update is way too aggressive. the user needs to be able to set frequency about how often they want cursor to be updated and in which scenarios.
Hey, thanks for the report. From your screenshot, it looks like Windows stopped recognizing Cursor. This can happen if an update install hits right when the system restarts and gets interrupted halfway through.
First, how to get the app back: just reinstall Cursor from Cursor · Download over the top. Your chats and settings won’t be lost. They’re stored in AppData, not in the install folder, so reinstalling won’t touch them.
Now about what you’re asking for, control over updates. This setting already exists. It’s called update.mode in Settings UI or settings.json:
manualdisables background checks, you only update manually via the Help menustartchecks only on launch, with no install on quitnonedisables updates completely
For your case, manual or start will prevent install-on-quit, which is what likely caused this.
