I don’t know if it is a recent update or bug but my chat interface is stuck in agent mode. i can’t switch back to editor mode. I mean I can but my chat interface is still in agent mode
They got rid of the editor classic layout mode. So now everything is this new layout which still has agent vs editor modes, but the old editor layout is gone.
Also would be helpful to share some screenshots, because maybe it is not the update and just some weird setting on your end.

@MidnightOak is right, this isn’t a bug, it’s a change in v2,6. The old Classic Editor layout was removed, and now Cursor uses a unified layout.
What you can do:
- In the top bar next to the settings icon, there’s a Layout dropdown. Pick the Editor layout. It’s the closest match to the old Classic Editor, the file explorer stays in the sidebar, and the chat moves into a separate tab.
Ctrl+EorCmd+Enow toggles the Agent sidebar position left or right, not the mode like before.
