Forcing automatic updates without your knowledge or consent is causing serious problems. Beta-designated content is also being forced to install, and while the app isn’t fully stable, everyone becomes a beta user.
If you don’t update, closing the app will automatically update when it reopens. Please get approval before updating, or remove it completely.
Sometimes, changing the vscode (vs. cursor) settings for auto-update can help. I’ve had mixed results, but its the best option we have right now to try and completely disable cursor auto-updates. Sadly, if cursor crashes, it seems to auto-update me every time the next time I start. Not sure what is unique about a crash…
I’ve been asking Cursor to give us better update options for a while now. They don’t seem interested in giving us anything resembling “Ask me first” or “Manual” or “Never” options.
Also, Changelog · Cursor, there are no updates here or anything like that. Even though we don’t know what has been added or removed, we are constantly forced to update.
You shouldn’t need any third-party software. You can just search for update in teh vscode settings in Cursor (Cursor is built on top of VSCode), and change the update mode:
