### Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

### Describe the Bug

This issue occurs in Cursor IDE every time I open the app. It opens and then buffers for a long time, freezing the application with the spinning wheel of death. After it finishes buffering, the application itself runs sluggishly. This is happening on a Mac Pro with an M4 chip.

### Steps to Reproduce

not sure now to reproduce it since it just happens on open.

MacOS

Hey, thanks for the report. This issue is related to the Nightly build (2.5.0-pre.16). Nightly builds can have regressions that aren’t in the stable version.

Let’s try to diagnose it:

**1. Check extensions** (they often cause startup freezes):

- VS Code settings: Application \> Experimental \> Extension Monitor
- `Cmd + Shift + P` \> Developer: Open Extension Monitor
- See what’s using CPU during startup
- Or try running `cursor --disable-extensions` in Terminal. If it runs fast, extensions are the cause

**2. Switch to the stable version:**

- Cursor Settings \> Beta \> Switch to Stable
- Nightly builds are unstable by design

**3. If it still happens** , please share:

- `Cmd + Shift + P` \> Developer: Open Process Explorer (a screenshot while it’s slow)
- Activity Monitor: CPU and RAM usage for Cursor processes
- Workspace size (number of files and folders)

It might be related to indexing a large project or some git operations on startup. Let me know how it goes on the stable version.

Hi Dean,

I’ll give it a try this weekend and see if that works and if not I’ll try to get more data for you on what might be happening. Thank you for the suggestion ✌🏻🫶🏼.
