### Where does the bug appear (feature/product)? Cursor IDE ### Describe the Bug The chat editor experiences multiple intermittent issues that significantly impact usability: Cursor position desynchronization - text insertion occurs at wrong location ### Steps to Reproduce Type: “hello. my name is cursor.” Position cursor after “hello.” (between “hello.” and “my”) Press Shift+Enter or paste content ### Screenshots / Screen Recordings ### Operating System Windows 10/11 ### Current Cursor Version (Menu → About Cursor → Copy) Version: 1.6.6 (user setup) VSCode Version: 1.99.3 Commit: 9455eaa4c87f2bad91eda3f2bc9b42b16eae1080 Date: 2025-09-11T01:16:54.096Z Electron: 34.5.8 Chromium: 132.0.6834.210 Node.js: 20.19.1 V8: 13.2.152.41-electron.0 OS: Windows\_NT x64 10.0.22631 ### Does this stop you from using Cursor No - Cursor works, but with this issue ---

Hey, thanks for the report. I can’t reproduce this issue. Could you try updating to the latest version of Cursor and let me know if the issue persists? ---

@deanrie Hello, Thank you for the quick response and for suggesting reinstallation as a potential fix. I have a concern about this approach: reinstalling the application typically results in the loss of saved settings and chat history. Before proceeding, could you please advise if there is any method to preserve my existing settings and chat history during the reinstallation process? For example, are these files stored in a specific local folder that I can back up, or is there a cloud synchronization feature for this data? Maintaining this data would be very helpful. @deanrie Thank you very much for the helpful information regarding the chat history preservation during reinstallation. That is great to know. I have one follow-up question regarding other user data: How about the cursor settings? Specifically, are there any steps I can take to ensure that data such as my saved ‘memories’ (or other custom configurations) are also preserved or backed up before I perform the reinstallation? Yes, you can try exporting your profile and then importing it after a clean install. You can also back up the folders that contain Cursor’s data, just in case something goes wrong.
