Cursor Settings are split between Agent and Editor, but both appear as “Cursor Settings”

As a new user, it’s very hard to find the correct setting because both the Agent Window and Editor Window present settings that look like they belong to the same “Cursor Settings” area, but they control different things.

This creates confusion because there’s no clear indication of:

  • which settings apply to Agent vs Editor,
  • where a setting should be expected,
  • and why a setting might be missing in one view.

Suggested improvements

  1. Clearly label sections as Agent Settings vs Editor Settings (in page title and sidebar).
  2. Add cross-links (“Looking for Agent settings? Go here…”).
  3. Add a unified search that returns settings from both surfaces with badges (Agent/Editor).
  4. Add a first-run tooltip/onboarding note explaining the two settings scopes.

This would make setup much easier for new users and reduce trial-and-error when configuring Cursor.

Hi @dallasthill!

For the most part, settings are unified—if a setting exists in both the Agents Window and the Editor Window, changing it in one place will update it in the other.

Do you have an example of a specific setting that was difficult to locate, or where its behavior was unclear?
