I downloaded cursor and got an absolutely amazing experience for 3 days. Didn’t change anything, just fired it up and all of a sudden this thing has turned into ChatGPT. I left ChatGPT because I get sick of telling it to do something 50 times to get the same results. I’m not sure what happened today, but it seems these work great until you pay for them, then they suddenly go stupid.

One chat created 99% of a program. Today I logged in to finish the polishing on the UI and I can’t get anywhere. It keeps getting stuck in a damn loop and not doing anything I ask or tells me it did, but didn’t actually do anything. Really, REALLY frustrating putting up with that and it is again, THE EXACT REASON I ditched ChatGPT. Now I’ll ditch this one too.

I want to repeat that I did not change a damn thing on the settings. The only thing I did was install updates and that is it. Period.

Hey, thanks for the report. I get how this gets in the way.

Agent looping is a known issue that can happen in certain cases. To dig into your specific case, I’ll need a bit more info:

  1. What model are you using? You can check it in the dropdown at the bottom of the chat, like Claude, GPT, Auto, etc.
  2. Your Cursor version: Help > About
  3. The Request ID for the problematic chat: click the three dots in the top right of the chat > Copy Request ID

In the meantime, try these workarounds:

  • Start a new chat instead of continuing a long one. Long context often triggers loops.
  • Split tasks into smaller, specific requests instead of do the UI. Better change button X color to Y.
  • If the agent starts looping, stop it right away and rephrase the request in a new chat.
