Cursor's strict limits are suffocating new devs – Here is some free business advice

Feature request for product/service

Billing

Describe the request

I’ve been using Cursor for a while, and honestly, the tool is great, but your current pricing model and strict limitations are choking the creativity of developers who are just starting out.

For instance, once a user uses up their free fast requests, it takes a ridiculously long time for those limits to reset, leaving people completely stuck and unable to work for ages. It just feels punishing.

Here is some free business advice: stop leaving indie/new developers empty-handed. Let the free tier be more generous. Think about it—the big companies, production studios, and professional devs who actually have the budget will pay you anyway. They won’t care about the subscription fee because they need it for business.

But by restricting the entry-level devs so harshly, you are just chasing away your future community. Widen your scale, loosen up the limits for the community, and let the revenue come from where it’s supposed to come from (the corporate money).

Fix this paywall system, support the newcomers, and you will truly become the undisputed king of IDEs.

What do you guys think? Am I the only one frustrated by this?

Hey, thanks for the feedback, that’s a helpful signal.

A couple quick notes for context: we recently expanded the free tier. It’s now 500 requests per month (it used to be 200) and 2 000 tab completions per month. The reset happens monthly on your account signup date. More details on the limits: Usage and limits | Cursor Docs and Pricing and plans | Cursor Docs.

Your point about supporting entry-level developers more is totally fair, I’ll pass it along to the team. We don’t have a specific ETA for expanding the free tier further yet, but the team is keeping an eye on it.
