Deleting a Cursor account does not remove its backend Grok account association. The Grok account remains linked to a Cursor account that no longer exists. Attempting to connect it to another Cursor account returns: “That Grok account is already linked to another Cursor account.” The stale association persists with no self-service unlink or recovery path.
Steps to Reproduce
Link a Grok account to a Cursor account.
Delete the linked Cursor account.
Sign in to a different intended Cursor account.
Attempt to connect the same Grok account.
Observe the error that the Grok account is already linked to another Cursor account.
Confirm that the deleted Cursor account cannot be accessed and there is no unlink or relink control.
Expected Behavior
Deleting a Cursor account should release its Grok association. If automatic release is not possible, Cursor should provide an ownership-verification recovery flow that clears the orphaned link and allows the Grok account to be connected again.

Additional Information
Multiple users have independently reproduced this backend state. Related support tickets: T-E93995, T-E91109, and T-E89095. The issue requires support or engineering intervention to clear the stale account association. Please provide a supported recovery path and track the underlying deletion cleanup bug.
Hey, thanks for the detailed description. This is the same linking issue we’re already tracking. Right now, deleting a Cursor account doesn’t free up the link to a Grok account, and there’s no self-serve way to unlink or relink yet. I can’t share any timelines.
Important: if the old link never actually activated Ultra or Grok Bot, then after a recent change, relinking should work again. If it was activated on the old account, the link is still locked for now, and that’s the case we’re still investigating.
For your specific account, the only way to fix it, either restoring the account or clearing the leftover link, is through the team at [email protected]. Please email them from the account you’re trying to use, include your email, the date you first signed in, and attach a screenshot of the error.
On the forum we can’t do anything else directly for individual accounts, but I’ll post here if there are updates on the underlying issue.
Same issue here. SuperGrok Heavy was linked to a Cursor account that I later deleted. Ultra had already been activated on that deleted account.
Current Cursor account is only on a Grok Bot free trial, not Ultra. Clicking Get Ultra shows: “You already have Grok Bot.”
[email protected] ticket T-E97626 is looping on the AI assistant (Sam). It says Support/Engineering cannot unlink, that a teammate would land in the same place, and that an xAI-side reset does not re-point the link. I cannot send mail from the Apple Hide My Email address on the current account.
Confirming the bug: deleting the Cursor account did not release the Grok link. Please have Accounts pick up T-E97626.
