Edit tool/model not working well with the agent

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

Complains from the agent - “edit model is reverting my changes and introducing new errors.” I had to explicitly prompt the agent to find a workaround for this tool issue after getting stuck continuously trying to edit the file. I checked and the agent is right, somehow the replaced code gets reverted after agent makes edits in another part of the file.

Steps to Reproduce

during a bug fix to solve a type issue - unexpected any.
agent on auto mode so i do not know which model

+1. Same issue

@dcdj99 @chiragbhansali which model are you using when you get this issue?

I’m seeing the same thing since the update this week. The agent is repeatedly getting stuck in loops where it’s trying to make more than one edit to the same file, and each edit reverts the previous one. Sometimes it notices and is able to break out of the cycle, such as by using sed instead of the edit tool. Other times it just goes around in a loop.

I’m afraid company policy prevents me from making a request with privacy disabled so I can’t supply an ID. System details:

Just to say I’m still seeing this happening quite often. ‘'I notice the edit didn’t apply correctly’

+1, this is making cursor borderline unusable. Almost every edit made is being reverted, making simple tasks take 20+ minutes with the constant reverts and re-fixes.

Does anyone have a decent workaround for this?

@chanceygardener which Cursor version and which model do you use when this occurs?

We may need additional details to fully reproduce the issue.
