After installing Cursor I get an error popup…
There was an error while Moving :Cursor.exe
Access denied (od error 5)
What is this and how do I resolve it?
Thank you,
Bob

Hey Bob. This popup is from Cursor’s Windows updater. After installing Cursor, it found a newer version, downloaded it, and when it tried to replace the files in place, Windows said Cursor.exe was still in use, so the swap didn’t finish (od error 5 is os error 5, access denied). Usually the file is held by a leftover Cursor process (Cursor.exe, node.exe, or rg.exe) or by an antivirus scanning the new files.
To continue:
C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\Programs\cursor looks empty, reinstall from Cursor · Download. Your settings and chats will be kept.To figure out what was holding the file, please share:
%TEMP% into the address bar and attach all cursor-inno-updater-*.log and Setup Log *.txt files from today. If the same dialog shows up on the next update, leave it open, run resmon, go to the CPU tab, and type cursor into the Associated Handles search box. A screenshot of that list will show exactly which process is holding the file.
