Feature Request: Enhanced Chat History Search and Navigation

Feature request for product/service

Cursor IDE

Describe the request

In Cursor IDE’s Chat feature, when asking many questions within a single chat, it becomes difficult to revisit earlier content.

  • Scenario: In one Chat session, multiple questions are asked, and I often need to look back at previous messages.
  • Pain Point: Although there is a search function, its scope seems limited. Using the scroll bar is also inefficient, as scrolling jumps around and makes locating specific content difficult.
  • Expected Feature: Please consider adding a more robust search or keyword navigation within the current Chat history, or providing a message index for easier navigation.
  • Value: This would greatly improve usability for long conversations, especially in technical Q&A and debugging scenarios, where reviewing earlier content is often necessary for analysis.

Thank you for considering this improvement.

Hey, thanks for the feature request. This is a popular request, and users have asked for something similar in other threads: Ctrl + F not working in Chat/Agent panel for long conversations (Feature Request: Dedicated Chat Search), Request for Ctrl+F Search Functionality Feature in AI Agent Chat Transcript Window, Search text in the Agents chat, so you’re not alone.

Quick status update: search currently only matches chat titles, not message content, so it can feel like the scope is limited. Full-text search inside long conversations and message-by-message navigation are on the radar, but I can’t share an ETA yet.
