Feel nervous from the noisy daily update request dialog

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

I am a paid user of your product.
Why are you displaying the update app dialog every day? It appears multiple times, not just once a day, and it’s quite frustrating. Do you actually make any significant updates that warrant these notifications? Could you please stop this or add a feature that allows users to control how often these dialogs appear?

Steps to Reproduce

Just open the IDE.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Does this stop you from using Cursor

No - Cursor works, but with this issue

Hey, thanks for the report. The team knows update notifications are showing up too often. It’s on our radar, but we don’t have a timeline yet.

As a workaround, you can change the update setting:

  • Open Settings Ctrl+,
  • Find Update: Mode
  • Set it to manual or none

With manual, updates will be available but won’t be pushed automatically. With none, notifications will fully stop, but you’ll need to install updates manually from Cursor · Download.

Also, on Windows, if you have two Cursor installs system-wide and user-level, that can cause repeated update prompts. Check in Task Manager where the .exe is launched from. If you see both installs, uninstall one.

Let me know if this helps.
