I’m working with a lot of markdown files, and the lack of a find function is a major downer. Web search finds that in 2021 it was expected to be a thing already in VSCode, but extensions get in the way. Well, I disabled all extensions, opened a markdown file, set to Preview. The global Find command is not available. There is no markdown-preview specific Find command.
If you have it, let me know we’ll try to figure why I don’t. Or if there’s any extension that adds it, let me know. I’ve been unable to find such.
Related: Find in Files will activate the file, but no selection highlighting of the match.
You’re not missing a setting. Right now the Preview view of a Markdown file in the Cursor editor has no Find command, and the older “Markdown: Open Preview” panel opens a search box but doesn’t return matches in Cursor. Disabling extensions won’t change either of those. This is a known gap.
In the meantime, two ways to search:
Switch the file to Source (click “Source” next to “Preview” at the top of the editor, or press Ctrl+Shift+V / Cmd+Shift+V), then use Ctrl+F / Cmd+F as usual.
If you use the Agents window, open the Markdown file there. Its Preview mode does support Ctrl+F / Cmd+F and highlights matches across the whole document.
On the Find in Files part: once you switch a file to Preview, Cursor remembers that per file, so search results open it in Preview where there’s no text selection to highlight. Switching that file back to Source restores the normal jump-to-match highlighting.
