This is a known issue that was fixed in 2.3. You’re on 2.2.44 from Dec 24, so it looks like the update hasn’t reached you yet due to the gradual rollout.
What to try now:
Check for updates: Help > Check for Updates. If 2.3+ is available, update.
Make a backup: %APPDATA%\Cursor\User\workspaceStorage
Important to know:
Chat history is stored locally and isn’t synced to the cloud.
Without backups, it’s not possible to recover lost chats.
I recommend using the SpecStory extension for automatic backups, or regularly exporting important chats (three dots > Export Chat).
If the issue happens again after updating to 2.3+:
Open Help > Toggle Developer Tools > Console, take a screenshot of any red errors, and share it here.
This is ridiculous. it already happened twice again. and there’s nothing take a screenshot off, it’s simply opening cursor “normally” as if it’s a first time use (for the 50th time), let’s me select my theme colors, and then the chats are showing “Loading Chats” forever.
In all honesty, today is the last time I’m doing that. Your companies disrespect to your users as super-disappointing. The fact that you can’t fix this bug (and allow us to choose to have our AI CONVERSATION SAVED ON YOUR SERVERS is simply below any AI-tool standard in 2024.
