I’m using the free Hobby plan, and for over 48 hours I have lost access to the normal assistant. Only the Background Agent is showing up. The standard AI chat assistant is completely missing from the interface.
I have tried restarting Cursor, logging out and back in, and even switching internet connections, but nothing worked.
This issue is blocking my entire workflow and I need help restoring the assistant.
Steps to Reproduce
Log into Cursor on the free Hobby plan
Open any project
Check the right-hand assistant area
Only the Background Agent appears – no regular assistant
Expected Behavior
The assistant should appear on the right side of the screen, ready to receive prompts. I should be able to chat with it like before, but currently it’s missing and only the Background Agent is shown.
Operating System
Windows 10/11
Current Cursor Version (Menu → About Cursor → Copy)
Using the latest version of Cursor as of July 2025. I’m on mobile and experiencing the issue across different devices.

I reached my free limit on June 25th at around 2:00 AM, so I expected the quota to reset today, but it hasn’t.

Hey, I didn’t quite understand your problem. In the first message, you mentioned a background agent, but in the screenshot, a non-background agent is selected. It’s possible that the monthly limit hasn’t reset yet, so please wait a little longer.
