Gemini 3 Flash can't change its console timeout

Where does the bug appear (feature/product)?

Cursor IDE

Describe the Bug

When working with the terminal Gemini 3 Flash does not change the time after which the process will be moved to the background, no matter how much I ask it to do so.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Ask him to perform an action that will take longer than the standard 30 seconds by setting the terminal timeout to 2 minutes.
  2. Watch how after 30 seconds he won’t understand what’s happening.

Expected Behavior

  1. Terminal will have an option to disable the timeout.
  2. The agent is able to set a terminal timeout and does not crash during long tasks.

Operating System

Windows 10/11

Gemini 3 Flash

Does this stop you from using Cursor

Yes - Cursor is unusable

Hey, @Artemonim! This is the same issue we already discussed in the earlier threads:

One quick clarification. The terminal timeout is a system limit, and it can’t be changed with model prompts. Asking Gemini (or Claude, or any other model) to “set the timeout to 2 minutes” won’t work, because the model simply can’t do that. This isn’t specific to Gemini.

Right now there isn’t a user setting for the timeout. The team is aware of the request, and your earlier posts and other threads have been noted. There isn’t an ETA for a configurable timeout yet.

I’d suggest continuing the discussion in the existing threads instead of starting new ones, since it’s easier for the team to keep everything in one place.
